Cocoro Tahitian Lauhala Pāpale

Handwoven in Japan | Exclusively at KAMEA

Some pieces find you when you least expect them.

While traveling in Japan, I had the privilege of meeting my friend Tomoko, the artisan behind Cocoro. Although based in Japan, Tomoko has dedicated years to learning and preserving the traditional art of Lauhala weaving. Every pāpale is woven entirely by hand, one strand at a time, with incredible patience and attention to detail.

The moment I saw these pieces, I knew they belonged with KAMEA.

More than just a pāpale, this is a piece of wearable craftsmanship—a celebration of island culture, artistry, and the friendships that connect us across the Pacific.

Lightweight, breathable, and designed with a wide brim for sun protection, it's the perfect companion for beach days, markets, travel, or simply enjoying life outdoors.

Because each pāpale is handcrafted, no two are exactly alike. The subtle variations in color, weave, and texture are a beautiful reminder of the hands that created it.
